Lai Mohammed, Minister of Media and Culture

Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, said that school abductions by robbers are also taking place in the world’s most developed countries.

While being interviewed on Channels Television on the growing insecurity in Nigeria, the minister said this.

The incidence of kidnapping and banditry has been rising in recent times in Nigeria, with high-profile school kidnapping cases in Kasina and Niger state.

Speaking about the trends, Lai Mohammed averred that terrorists do not abide by government laws and are involved in soft targets, alleging that at least 4 kidnapping cases have occurred in United States colleges in 2020.

Mohammed observed that more global interest is drawn to the abduction of school children and that is why kidnappers indulge in them. He further claimed that intelligence collection is what matters most to him, as Nigeria can not convert all its schools into barracks.

The minister, who confirmed that the new government has proposed transferring students to schools where protection remains, also recalled how suicide bombers targeted places of worship in the nation a few years ago.
