According to the PUNCH, the kidnapping of female students from Government Girls High School, Jangebe in the Talata-Mafara Local Government Area of the state was reported by the government of Zamfara State.
This was confirmed by the Commissioner for Defense and Home Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Dauran, in a brief interview on Friday with the Nigerian News Agency in Gusau.
The abductors entered the city in their hundreds and took away the students at around 2 am.
I can now announce to you that we have unfortunately received a report on the kidnapping of the GGSS Jangebe boys, and I am on my way to school right now.
“At this point, I can’t tell how many students were taken away by the gunmen before I got there, but we have already mobilized security guards and security guards who are now in search of the abductors,” said the commissioner.
“A school worker who spoke to NAN on condition of anonymity said, “The gunmen infiltrated the city about 2 am on Friday in their hundreds, fired sporadically in the air to intimidate the people before entering the school.
“We rounded up those who fled or hid from the bandits after taking away most of the students and carried out a survey where we counted 54 students and we are still looking to see how we can get more.”
Also, a resident who gave his name as Haliru Jangebe said the local vigilantes had tried to repel the invaders but were overpowered.
“The bandits were too many and they all seemed to be carrying heavy arms as we heard gunshots from all parts of the town and when the shots stopped, we heard that the students had been taken away.”
